They are a great source of vitamin C and and many other nutrients that are essential to the human body. These fruits are known for their strong flavor and aroma. Citrus fruits and their essences are used in a variety of products. It is a popular fragrance for cleaning products.

Acid is healthy and a nutritional part of citrus fruits, but the acidity in citrus fruits can cause difficulty with consumption and digestion. This is especially true in people with health conditions. Sometimes the person may have an allergic reaction to one or more citrus fruits, other times it may just irritate their stomach. Many times this is aided by cutting out milk products, as the reaction of the two can cause stomach upset.

There are many different types of citrus fruits, and they vary in nutritional content, aroma, flavor and acidity. The main varieties include: Kumquat, Leech Lime, Minneola, Sweety, Pummelp, Rough Lemon, Grapefruit, Tangelo, Ugli, Orange, Clementine, Lemon, Mandarin, Lime, Satsuma and Orange. Pineapple, despite popular belief, is not a citrus fruit. Many of these citrus fruits can be found at your local farmer’s market, and sometimes the regular grocery store. If you are tired of eating citrus fruits like Oranges, it is a great idea to branch out and try some new ones.

Growing a successful citrus tree is a simple process. Factors such as temperature, moisture and adequate watering help maintain production of citrus fruit. Citrus trees can be found in the south of Spain, Australia and south of China. In the U.S., citrus trees are grown in Florida, Texas and California.
Citrus trees produce sweet oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, grapefruit and a variety of hybrid citrus fruit. Cool temperatures aid in growing citrus trees. A cool summer and moderate winter allow lemons to flourish while tangerines grow best in sub-zero degree temperatures. Water quality is also important because when high in salt it can damage the tree’s leaves.
Contrary to popular belief a tree does not grow by simply planting citrus seeds in dirt. Reproducing a new tree is done by planting a seed for the rootstock. Grafting must take place in order for the tree to began to grow. Citrus fruit passes from immaturity to maturity to over maturity while on the tree. After the rootstock is a year old a single bud can be taken from a branch and inserted into the bark of a young seedling. The bud grows into the top of the tree that produces the fruit. The buds form in early winter developing through spring. After bloom the fruit develops five to eighteen months later depending on the tree. Citrus trees will grow in most soil. Compost or manure enhance the nutrient holding abilities of the tree. Unlike other trees no pruning is necessary.

These are typically grown in warm regions, and most of the citrus fruits in the U.S are grown in Florida and California. Citrus fruits are known to be rich in vitamin C, which is critical for a healthy immune system.

Below are some of the common citrus fruits varieties:

1. Pomelo: This tangy citrus fruit is pale green to yellow when ripe, with sweet white flesh inside and very thick skin. These are usually found in Southeast Asia, and are excellent sources of vitamin C and potassium.

2. Kumquat: These resemble oranges, but are slightly smaller and ovular. These are most commonly found in East Asia and Southeast Asia, and some of its species are also found in the U.S. These are again excellent sources of vitamin C and antioxidants, and are also rich in iron, potassium and vitamin B.

3. Key Lime: These round citrus fruits are green when picked for commercial purposes, but turn yellow when ripe. Key Limes are native to India, but are grown all over the world today. These have a strong aroma with a pungent, tart flavor, and are rich sources of vitamin C.

4. Mandarin Orange: These sweet, oblate citrus fruits closely resemble the ubiquitous oranges, and are native to China. Other varieties of the orange family include clementines and tangerines. Mandarins are excellent sources of vitamins C and A.

Many other varieties of citrus fruits like grapefruits and oranges are cultivated today as a hybrid of two or more naturally available citrus fruits.

10 lemon tips

Squeeze lemon and make lemon drink. Then you add it in cold water and put in the refrigerator for one hour. You can taste for yourself how much water you want to add. Possibly you can add honey or syrup to make it sweeter for drinking.

You can use lemon as a salad dressing. Normally we use vinegar, but lemon is great too. They work especially well in combination.

Fruit drinks like peach nectar, which usually tastes very sweet, you can add lemon juice for a pleasant fresh taste.

Exchange lemons occasionally for limes, for variation.

Squeeze a few drops of lemon on an apple before you put it in a salad. This will prevent apple pieces to turn brown after some time. If you cut a lot of apples for example a fruit salad, which you can marinate in lemon juice so they stay fresh longer. Lemon juice is often used as a preservative.

In some hot countries eat a whole lemon, just like a tangerine, which not only prevents a fresh mouth, but you soon get thirsty.

Transform ordinary black tea fresh lemon tea by adding a little lemon juice to it.

Surprise your visit a slice of lemon on the rim of their glass of water. You still have them at home and it is easily done. It looks cute.

Once revered for mystical red deserts, Australia as a culinary destination earns high marks from today’s foodies. With cutting-edge magazines like Gourmet Traveller and Wine Spectator giving frequent nods to the food, the restaurants, and the vineyards, it’s enough to make you pack your bags and make a reservation.

You won’t be disappointed. Contemporary Australian cuisine layers flavor on flavor to create a deliciously entangled mélange known as Mod-Oz, short for Modern Australian. Dishes draw flavors from the world’s greatest food empires, Asia first and foremost. From Indonesia north to China and Japan and Polynesia west to Burma and India, there’s not a single Asian cuisine that can’t be found here. In cities like Sydney you can sample traditional Asian one day, then taste its echoes in a Mod-Oz creation the next.

A second great influence dates from the 1980s, when immigrants began arriving from the Mediterranean. Known as Mod-Med, this offshoot of Mod-Oz incorporates foods from both sides of the world’s favorite sea. Particularly fine Italian and Greek restaurants can be found in Melbourne and Canberra, while the foods of Lebanon and Turkey – both fusion cuisines in their own right – are also abundant.

With seafood-rich coasts and a year-round growing climate, Australia is well-positioned for 21st century tastes, and even finicky grazers needn’t be afraid of term “bush tucker.” It’s simply the Oz word for what Americans call locavorism – bringing the best of what grows locally to the table at the peak of freshness. So try a little of everything, from traditional to Mod-Oz to Mod-Med. If in doubt, have what everyone else is having. You can hardly go wrong.
